Green Smoothie
Sometimes you need a quick fix, it could be post workout, breakfast on the run or just a top up mid afternoon to get you through the rest of the day. So what do you do? Instead of reaching for a coffee and banana bread, which are full of calories that aren’t doing you any good, make up one of these smoothies and pop it in the fridge ready for the next day.
Yes you can buy these juices at any number of places, but they are so simple and quick to make you really should give them a go. Chock full of fruit and the added bonus of spinach (promise you can’t taste it!) they are a great food on the go option. If the fresh fruit is of your choice is out of season, most supermarkets have a great stock of frozen fruit and berries, with organic options out there at a reasonable cost.
Want to give your body a brekkie boost? Try this recipe as a starter and give your body some fresh iron, potassium, vitamin C and antioxidants to see you through the day.
2 cups of spinach (pack the cup tightly)
3⁄4 cup water
3⁄4 cup orange juice
1 cup strawberries
1 cup blueberries (frozen will chill the drink down)
2 bananas
Place spinach, water and juice in the blender and blitz till it goes smooth. Add in fruit and blend again till all mixed up.
Pour into a fancy pants cup and enjoy.
This makes enough for 2 servings so pour the remainder into a cup with a lid and you have enough gogo juice for tomorrow’s breakfast.
Want to mix it up a little? Use kale instead of spinach, throw in some nuts for protein, use coconut water or almond milk, or, try some different fruit. As long as you stick to the basic ratios you’ll have a drink that packs a punch and tastes amazing.
