Creating Accountability

Goal setting and mindset are interrelated

We all go through the process of goal setting every day and a lot of the time we do it without even thinking about it. For example when you got up this morning did you just walk around aimlessly or did you have breakfast, get dressed and go to work? It may not have seemed like goal setting because it is something you do every day but how were you able to accomplish these things?

Likely you planned them all ahead of time. You probably made some preparations the day before and or as the day went on, kept your eye on the clock noting what time meetings were scheduled, what time you had to pick up the kids etc. Yes that is goal setting on a basic level but what would your day be without it?

Taking goal setting to the next level

Deciding you have a bigger goal can be both exciting and daunting however with effective planning it is achievable. It can be all too easy to abandon a goal that seems to be too challenging so you really need to think about how important it is to you and then start a step by step process to achieve it. The worst thing you can do is throw the towel in just because it seems to hard.

Creating accountability

Successful people will take things to the next level by making themselves accountable to someone. Creating this sense of accountability can be as easy as announcing to a friend or family member. Yes granted the thought of other people knowing your intention may make you feel vulnerable and nervous so why do it? Because it is a powerful goal setting motivator. When you tell others what you want to accomplish, certain things happen. Suddenly you are serious about your goals and much more compelled to follow through on them. It magnifies our own level of commitment and your chances of success will skyrocket.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself.

  1. Do you have some goals that you want to achieve in the future?
  2. What would you be willing to do to achieve unprecented progress?
  3. Are you ready to make things happen?

Hopefully you answered yes to all of them and can get the ball rolling. If you said no you need to ask yourself what would it take for you to have a goal to achieve. Perhaps feelings of self doubt will arise or limiting beliefs but don’t be put off. We can overcome any of these obstacles through proper planning and preparation.
